Our Name (SJK)
OUR NAME: SJ KARATE (SJK)
We named our Dojo: Seleny Joanne Karate, or SJ Karate (SJK) in loving memory of our precious Karate Practitioner and Champion Seleny Joanne, who was tragically struck by a school bus on 04/31/2014 and departed to Heaven on 05/02/14.
She suddenly left her family, friends, and all of her karate family with broken hearts after the accident; however, the family knows she is in a better place still practicing Karate with the Angels and our Heavenly Father.
The Dojo, the tradition, and the quality karate continue because our Instructors love the Martial Arts as a discipline, as a lifestyle, and of course, in loving memory of our angel Seleny Joanne. Therefore, SJK keeps forming new karate generations and discovering new talents, and making new champions.

Seleny began her heavenly life on May 2, 2014, joining her brother Daniel who preceded her. We still carry her love in our hearts until we embrace her again. Words cannot express our sorrow, but her loving vibrancy lives on eternally.
Seleny was the happiest in the family to move back to Utah from Texas, as she missed being with her grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She adored her grandmother and cherished nursing her when she was ill—she wanted to be a physician like her uncle Nathan. Seleny won several karate competitions in Texas. She was recently practicing for a tournament in Colorado. She enjoyed running and would sometimes run up to seven miles per day.

Seleny was an altar server at St. Vincent’s Parish with her twin sister Doris and brother David. She was the BIG sister and loved taking care of her younger sister Danielle and her siblings. She loved her puppy Snoopy.
